Educational Objectives
The Department of Fashion and Textiles at the Graduate School aims to cultivate advanced research capabilities by providing in-depth and broad theoretical knowledge in various specialized fields such as fashion beauty design, textile physics, and textile chemistry. The program covers the entire process of the fashion-related industry, from product planning of textile goods to production processes and marketing. Students also gain the ability to collect and analyze up-to-date information in connection with relevant industries.

Department Regulations
A. Admission Regulations
- Matters not specified in these departmental regulations shall follow the Graduate School regulations and related policies. If necessary, the departmental faculty meeting shall discuss and decide.
- Recognition of Related Departments Applicants with a background in clothing, fashion, beauty (cosmetology), home economics, or textiles are principally eligible. In special cases, eligibility will be determined by the departmental faculty meeting.
- Special Admissions The ratio of students admitted through special screening is determined by the departmental faculty meeting.
B. Credit Requirements
- Students must complete at least 26 credits for the Master’s program (including 2 credits for thesis research) and 40 credits for the Doctoral program (including 4 credits for thesis research), including major and common core courses.
- Recognition of Related Departments Applicants with a background in clothing, fashion, beauty (cosmetology), home economics, or textiles are principally eligible. In special cases, eligibility will be determined by the departmental faculty meeting.
- Special Admissions The ratio of students admitted through special screening is determined by the departmental faculty meeting.
C. Foreign Language Examination
For the Doctoral program, a second foreign language examination is not required.
D. Comprehensive Examination
For both Master's and Doctoral programs, comprehensive exams are taken in major subjects selected by the academic advisor.
E. Submission and Evaluation of Thesis
Eligibility for Thesis Submission
Students must meet the following requirements to submit a degree thesis:
- Master’s Program
- Requirements (per Graduate School thesis regulations):
- Completion of at least 24 course credits (with an average grade of 80 or above)
- Completion of all designated prerequisite courses
- Completion of at least four regular semesters
- Submission of a research proposal and at least one semester of guidance from an academic advisor
- Passing of foreign language (English) and comprehensive exams (2 major subjects)
- Payment of research registration fee in the semester of thesis application (only once after coursework completion)
- Presentation of thesis proposal at least one semester before preliminary and final evaluations
- Departmental Requirement: Subject to the academic advisor’s judgment
- Requirements (per Graduate School thesis regulations):

- General Requirements (per Graduate School thesis regulations):
- Completion of at least 36 course credits (or 60 credits for integrated Master-Ph.D. program), with an average grade of 80 or above
- Completion of all designated prerequisite courses (at least 9 out of 12 prerequisite credits must be earned if required)
- Completion of at least four regular semesters (eight semesters for integrated program)
- Completion of at least 2 credits in thesis research (4 credits for integrated program)
- At least two semesters of academic guidance and at least one public presentation, followed by the advisor's recommendation
- Passing of foreign language exams (English and second language, if required by department)
- Passing of comprehensive exams (3 major subjects)
- Payment of research registration fee in the semester of thesis application (only once after coursework completion)
- Presentation of thesis proposal at least one semester prior to preliminary and final evaluations
- Research achievements as prescribed by the department, under the advisor's supervision
For Type 2 of the integrated program: If foreign language and comprehensive exams (2 subjects) are passed during the Master's period, the foreign language exam is waived. One additional major subject must be passed for final approval.
- Departmental Requirement: In principle, 100% of the thesis should be published prior to the submission of the Doctoral Dissertation Proposal (Proposal submission). (Certificates of acceptance are also recognized as published papers.)
